GHK-Cu is the copper(II) complex of the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine. The GHK sequence occurs naturally in human plasma, where it was first isolated in 1973, and it binds copper(II) with high affinity through the imidazole nitrogen of its histidine residue and its N-terminal amine. The complex is one of the most widely used copper peptides in cell-culture research.
